Pre-Placement Medical Exams

Pre-placement medicals determine worker fitness and set the baseline to evaluate future injuries.

Pre-placement medicals are a critical component of a complete occupational program. They can also establish claims for SIEF (the Second Injury and Enhancement Fund) and help assign employees to workstations that best suit their physical capabilities.

To match the right employee to the proper position, we ask employers to provide a physical demands analysis. Workplace Medical can arrange for a third party to generate one for those who do not have existing physical demands analyses. Pre-placement medicals can include complete physicals, vision and audio screening, back stress tests, X-rays, and urine drug screening.

These examinations include a review of the individual’s medical history, physical examination and may entail ECG testing, audiogram screening, vision screening and a pulmonary function test (PFT), which screens for asthma, emphysema and other obstructive lung disorders. Examinations can also include testing to screen for specific diseases and ultrasounds and bone mineral testing.

Medical Surveillance Programs

Suppose your employees are exposed to designated substances, as defined by the Ministry of Labour and the Occupational Health & Safety Act. In that case, the Ministry requires a medical surveillance program to ensure their health and safety.

The medical protocols are designed specifically for the type of exposure such as PCBs, asbestos lead, silica, and isocyanates, to name a few. The protocols can include physical exams, laboratory testing, data analysis, x-rays, lung capacity and other medical tests. Keeping track of these tests for all of your employees can be a burdensome task, and we can help streamline this process and make it more effective

WMC has a well-established reputation for designing and implementing medical surveillance programs.

Drug & Alcohol Testing Service

Suppose you require drug and alcohol testing as part of your occupational health program, or you are a transportation company requiring Canadian cross-border drivers to comply with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s regulations. In that case, Workplace Medical offers complete drug and alcohol testing services.

We have been providing DOT drug testing for trucking companies since it became mandatory for Canadian drivers in 1996. We understand the importance of keeping costs low, providing fast turnaround time, and maintaining compliance with U.S. DOT regulations to keep your trucks on the road and on schedule.

Our drug and alcohol testing program administration for occupational health follows U.S. DOT protocols to maintain quality and confidentiality. The protocols include supervised saliva drug tests and urine collection, certified laboratory testing, and the use of a Medical Review Officer.
