JHSC Refresher Certification Training
Course Overview
This one-day course provides Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) Refresher Certification Training for certified committee members who are required to maintain their certification under Ontario legislation.
JHSC members must complete refresher training every three years to remain certified and stay current with legislative updates, enforcement trends, and evolving workplace risks.
Workplace Medical is a Chief Prevention Officer (CPO)–approved training provider for JHSC Part One, Part Two, and Refresher Training.

- 1 day (in-class)

This course is delivered through:
- Onsite delivery for employers (where appropriate)
- Scheduled public sessions.
Certification Requirement
Under Ontario requirements, certified JHSC members must complete refresher training within three years of completing Part Two – Workplace-Specific Hazard Training[KV1.1]. Failure to complete refresher training within the required timeframe may result in loss of certified member status.

Legislative Review and Key Terms
- Key terms within the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Regulations, standards, codes, guidelines, and policies
- Collective agreements and their relevance to workplace safety
Roles, Rights, and Responsibilities
- Duties of employers, supervisors, workers, and JHSC members
- The Internal Responsibility System (IRS)
- Right to Refuse or Stop Work
- Protection from employer reprisals
Enforcement and Compliance
- Notices and Ministry enforcement practices
- Inspector powers and compliance expectations
- Updates to legislation, standards, and codes within the past three years
Hazard Identification and Prevention
- Hazard identification and control using the R.A.C.E. model
- Investigations and corrective action
- Prevention resources and committee effectiveness
Who Must Take JHSC Refresher Training?
All certified JHSC members in Ontario must complete refresher training every three years to maintain certification and remain compliant with provincial requirements.
