    Spill Response Training

    Spill Response Training prepares participants to respond safely and effectively to workplace spills, protecting people, property, and the environment. The course focuses on containment, control, clean-up, reporting, and restoration—emphasizing safe decision-making and regulatory compliance throughout the response process.

    Participants learn how to assess spill risks, determine appropriate response actions, and understand when escalation to specialized emergency response services is required.


    Duration:

    • 4 hours (theory and core response principles)
    • Optional additional 2 hours for hands-on practical application

    Delivery Options:

    Spill Response Training can be delivered:

    • Onsite for employers

    Training Method

    Instruction includes:

    • Instructor-led discussion
    • Scenario-based learning
    • Practical demonstrations
    • Applied examples relevant to workplace spill risks

    Training emphasizes safe, proportionate response and regulatory awareness.

    Course Content

    Participants receive instruction covering spill response responsibilities and best practices, including:

    • Spill response carts and equipment
    • Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements related to spills
    • Environmental Protection Act responsibilities and accountability
    • Roles and responsibilities following a spill
    • Recognizing spill hazards and prevention measures
    • Identifying hazards present during a spill response
    • Determining appropriate response actions
    • Understanding when to escalate and engage external emergency response services
    • Conducting a controlled spill response
    • Containing spills and preventing further contamination
    • Spill clean-up and hazardous waste handling
    • Incident reporting requirements
    • Restoring the affected area
    • Personal protective equipment (PPE) selection and use

    Practical Application (Optional)

    Where requested, additional hands-on training allows participants to:

    • Apply spill response procedures using workplace-specific equipment
    • Practice containment and control techniques
    • Use spill response kits and PPE correctly

    Policies and procedures for safely handling spills are provided as part of the training.
